As you know, this series is based on some of the books that are my favorite. I understand that these books may not be for everyone, but I just wanna show them off because they are absolutely essential for me. Also, I have got a wall of books and I need to do something other than just check them out myself!
The book that I picked today is The Legend of Zelda: Art & Artifacts. If you know me, I am fanatical about The Legend of Zelda video games, so this book is a very obvious choice...
I picked this book up way before I started this series, and I'm very happy to recommend this book to you all. So let's get into this book and see what I liked about this book and what I didn't.
Not very handy
First things first. All of you know how particular I am about whether a book is compact enough to be carried on myself easily. However, this one is not very easy to carry. It's hardcover, about 400 pages thick, and not light weight at all. The size of the book is also quite large.
The silver lining
Each of these inconvenient features has a silver lining though. The thickness of the book is partly due to the high quality of the paper used. The large size means that you can immerse yourself in the intricate details of the artworks. That's wwhy it is on my list of favorite art books.
The good thing is also the bad thing!
The primary reason I like it is that it's very familiar to me. If you have seen the art books for any of the Zelda games then you will find pretty much all of that in this book. Just going through this is like looking at a family album for me!
The good thing about this book is also the bad thing! Due to my familiarity, there is nothing new for me in this book. Chances are that I have already seen any randomly chosen artwork, a zillion times before! So it doesnt give me enough motivation to pick this up very often.
A complete guide
Inspite of the familiarity, this book is one of my favorites because I feel it's a complete guide. It has rare promotional pieces, game box art, instruction booklet illustrations, official character illustrations and much more. It features artwork from every Zelda game ever. Ocarina of time, Skyward sword, Hyrule Warriors; you name it!
It also has some cool artwork from the new game, Breath of the Wild, which just came out. Have a look at this video I did on it and you'll know what I'm talking about.
So, if you are a Zelda fan like me this is a must have. I would love to know if this inspired you to buy the book. You can buy it at Amazon here. This is one of my favorite art books and I cannot imagine my collection without it!
